In his programme notes the Brixham manager contrasted his charges’ ‘direct approach’ with Street’s ‘stylish’ one, suggesting both sets of supporters could be in for a treat, setting this game up nicely as a contest between two sides with different ways of playing the game, writes Antony Randle.

For the first forty minutes his prediction was spot-on as the teams went toe-to-toe, Street taking the lead on five minutes via a Harry Foster penalty after Archie Heywood was brought down and the home side equalising ten minutes later. Then came the first of two extremely questionable red cards given against the visitors, Shay Corrick
curiously deemed guilty of ‘violent conduct’ in simply backing into his opponent followed barely five minutes later by Lewis Morgan, ordered off in circumstances that were not at all clear to anyone watching the action.

That Street managed to hold out with nine men for the first twenty-five minutes of the second period is testament to some heroic defending, skipper Jake Horsey repeatedly putting his body on the line in blocking shots and making tackles, ably assisted by Heywood and MotM Zeph Collins. Playing as a lone striker young Freddie Haden manfully kept the Brixham defence on its toes until injury to a wrist forced him off the field, Street finishing the game with keeper Lewis Williams having to take up a position as an outfield player. By then they were a goal behind, their resistance having finally been breached, and a third ten minutes from time simply added insult to injury.
