The optimism fostered by the opening day win v Brislington took a bit of a knock as local rivals Bridgwater secured bragging rights until the next encounter at The Tannery at the end of November.

This was a game in which The Cobblers seemed never quite to get off the ground although credit must go to the home side’s disciplined defending which denied Street any clear-cut chances despite some busy prompting by Finn King Smith throughout the ninety minutes.

The opening goal came in the 17th minute, the Bridgwater striker getting in between the Street centre-backs to run on to a ball over the top and slot his finish past Liam Kingston. It might have been two but for a sitter being missed on the stroke of halftime but after only fifteen minutes of the second period some poor marking let Bridgwater in for an easy second. With Street manager Ben Watson throwing on all five of his subs.

The Cobblers made a concerted effort to get back into the game but a possible lifeline was denied ten minutes from the end when after a great run by Preston Hopwood it seemed that Charlie Bateson was brought down in the penalty area; sadly the referee waved away
Street’s claims.

Another couple of half-chances came and went but only a great save by Kingston late on prevented the scoreline from being more emphatic.
